When people cannot access legal help, they can face temporary or even permanent loss of stability, which can affect their housing, income, safety, or family structure—not because of the merits of their case, but because of the challenges of navigating the complex legal system.

By strengthening the organizations that provide legal assistance, the Georgia Bar Foundation helps preserve the integrity of Georgia’s courts and the public’s trust in the rule of law.

How we invest in access to justice

A Fair, Structured Process

Through a fair, structured, and transparent grantmaking process, the Georgia Bar Foundation evaluates applications against clear criteria that prioritize demonstrated need, alignment with mission, and measurable impact.

The Supreme Court of Georgia’s philanthropic arm

The Georgia Bar Foundation is entrusted to advance access to justice for people and communities across the state who cannot afford an attorney or navigate the legal system on their own.

As the primary steward of Interest on Lawyer Trust Account (IOLTA) funds in Georgia, the Foundation translates a technical funding mechanism into real, tangible help for people in Georgia facing critical legal problems.

Our Role in Georgia’s Legal Ecosystem

The Georgia Bar Foundation operates at the intersection of Georgia’s lawyers, courts, financial institutions, grantees, and philanthropic partners, transforming collective responsibility into concrete support for legal help across the state.

We strategically invest IOLTA resources into organizations best equipped to directly serve people who need it most.
